The importance of establishing a firm foundation for elementary school children was recognized in 1972 by a presidential decree promulgating a general education program for children. A further development in this direction was the implementation of a values education program in the 1980s, peace was among the values. Given the number of studies done on children and peace, this study focuses on the under children's and teachers' understanding of peace; how peace is taught; and how the teaching of peace can be improved.
