The book presents the perspectives of internally displaced children from the municipalities of Pikit and Carmen in Cotobato and Pagalungan in Maguindanao who experienced the 2000 and 2003 war between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. It looks into the children's coping strategies and factors in their family and community context that affect their responses.

It also provides an overview of services and programmes implemented by government agencies, donors and civil society organizations in response to the chronic war situation. It outlines urgent issues that should be addressed in Central Mindanao and presents a set of recommendations that can enhance existing efforts.
